Judge the design by the 16px preview — that is the size your visitors actually see in the tab.
Which Sizes Do You Actually Need?
| File | Where it is used |
|---|---|
favicon.ico (16+32+48 inside) | The classic. Browsers have used this file for decades — put it at your site root or link to it, and tabs, bookmarks and history all pick it up. |
| PNG 180×180 | Apple touch icon — what an iPhone shows when someone saves your site to the home screen. |
| PNG 192×192 and 512×512 | Android / PWA icons — Chrome uses these for home-screen shortcuts and install prompts. |
| PNG 32×32 | Retina tabs and Windows taskbar shortcuts — the sharper version of the 16px classic. |
How to Add It to Your Site
Download the .ico, upload it (on Blogger: Settings → Favicon, or host the file and link it), then make sure these lines sit in your page's <head> — Blogger's favicon setting adds the first one for you:
Design honesty: at 16 pixels, a favicon is a postage stamp. One bold letter on a strong contrasting color beats a detailed logo every time — that is why this generator is built around text, and why the 16px preview above matters more than the big one. If your letter is unreadable at 16px, simplify: fewer characters, bolder font, harder contrast. More design and site tools live in the Free Tools list.
Frequently Asked Questions
Is this favicon generator free? Are my designs uploaded?
Free, no sign-up, no watermark — and private. The favicon is drawn on a canvas in your browser; nothing is uploaded or stored anywhere.
What is the difference between .ico and PNG favicons?
An .ico is a container that holds several sizes (here: 16, 32 and 48) in one file, and browsers pick the size they need. PNG favicons are one size per file and are used with explicit link tags — modern sites often ship both, which is why this tool offers both.
Why does my favicon not update after I replace it?
Browsers cache favicons aggressively — harder than almost any other file. Test in a private window, or add a version query (favicon.ico?v=2) to the link. The old icon can linger in bookmarks for days; that is the browser, not your file.
Can I use an emoji as the favicon?
Yes — type or paste an emoji into the text box. It renders in your device's emoji style, and it is a genuinely good favicon for blogs and personal sites. Keep the background solid so the emoji stays readable at 16px.
How many characters can I use?
Up to four, but the tool is honest with you: one character is bold and clear, two (initials) still work, and beyond that the 16px preview will show you the squeeze. Let that smallest preview make the decision.
Which fonts are used? Will it look the same everywhere?
The four fonts are system fonts (Arial, Georgia, Courier New, Verdana) rendered on your own device, so no font files are downloaded and the PNG you save is exactly what you see. Another device with the same standard fonts would render it the same way — and since you download the finished image, your visitors never render the font at all.
